CES 2004 report by Roy Harris of
Audiophilia
"Although as previously indicated, the sound quality at the Alexis Park
and St Tropez was in most cases mediocre, there were some good values and
decent sounding stereo systems...
III. $10000-15000
A. Magnepan 3.6 ($4600) - This simple system had no preamp, included the
Sony 999ES, Cardas cable and the Soaring Audio SLC A-300. It was the
best combination of solid state and Magnepan I have ever heard. The
strength of ribbon drivers were evident without the edge often associated
with the combination of ribbons and solid state...
My vote for Best Sound of the Show is the Magnepan 3.6, Soaring Audio
combination."

Stereo Times - Awarded "Most Wanted Components -
2004"
"Another memorable moment came when listening to the
Tin Hat Trio’s CD The Rodeo Eroded. I could practically close my
eyes and swear Willie Nelson was in my room while he sang the wonderful
Willow Weep For Me...
I know, as a regular audio guy, there is a propensity not to take
something with 'Home Theatre' in the name seriously as an audio product.
But despite that peculiar piece of nomenclature, the SLC-A300 performs
like a pure audiophile-grade amplifier."

Positive Feedback Online - Issue 13 (Includes
three separate reviews.)
One "The vibrato from both singers was simply the most detailed I
had ever heard. Imaging was tight and focused, and had excellent
clarity with no haze or smearing."
Two "The bass was stong and well defined. The soundstage and
imaging were wide and also well defined."
Three "Did I mention that the amp sounded FAST? One of my
favorite recordings is the Cactus Choir CD available on
www.cdbaby.com.
The Soaring amp revealed all of the Choir's Eagles-meets-BeachBoys
harmonies with all of the detail and image layering that is in the great
recording. I had never heard it sound more musical or real.
Percussion sounds really floated in space."

Tom Martin AVguide Monthly
January 2004
"Upper midrange and treble is very smooth and grain-free. Well
recorded female vocals, like Jennifer Warnes' The Well [Sin-Drome],
sound absolutely lovely on the Soaring."
This review not only considers the performance of the SLC-A300, but also
discusses philosophical issues about audio signal processing and the SLC
circuits used in the Soaring amp.
